Nursing Home Services
CHIROPODY
The chiropodist, attends fortnightly or more often if required. An appointment can be arranged through the staff and payment is either directly to Nan or by monthly bill.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
We have a physiotherapist who your GP can refer you to if required. She will attend you in the nursing home by appointment. Payment is made directly to the physiotherapist and can be claimed from your private health insurer if applicable.
RELIGIOUS SERVICE
Ministers of all religions attend the nursing home on a regular basis. Communion is given every Sunday to Catholic residents and mass is once a month.
Church of Ireland ministers attend once a month also.
NEWSPAPERS
Newspapers are delivered daily to the home for the residents use. If you require a specific paper or your own copy of a paper please let us know.
SHOPPING
If you require any shopping the staff will organise this for you.
TELEPHONES
There are telephone points in all rooms and private telephones can be installed, please ask management if you would like to arrange this. Mobile phones can be used in all areas of the home at any time. There is a portable phone at reception in the entrance hall available for all residents and visitors.
Televisions
There is a TV in each bedroom and in the living rooms. There are a number of Free to Air channels available in the bedrooms, or you can receive sky if you bring your own decoder. The channels in the living rooms include all the Sky digital channels plus sports and movies.
LAUNDRY
The staff will do your laundry for you if you require. All laundry being done in the home must be labelled with the resident’s name. All washing, drying, and ironing is done free of charge. Dry cleaning can be arranged for a charge.
RESIDENTS COMMITTEE
A Residents Committee meets every 10 to 12 weeks to discuss any improvements that could be made to enhance life in Douglas Nursing Home. All residents are welcome and encouraged to voice their opinions. The meeting is facilitated by the Elderwell Team and the minutes are forwarded to the Director of Nursing to be discussed and recommendations implemented.
SMOKING POLICY
Residents may smoke in the Smoking Room at any time. Smoking in the bedrooms and living rooms is strictly forbidden on safety grounds and for the comfort of other residents.
Visitors and staff are not allowed to smoke in the home.
